One in six people on the planet
does not have clean drinking water. The lack of clean
drinking water kills more people than war and is the source of
preventable diseases like typhoid and dysentery. To prevent
these deaths, it is just a matter of drilling wells to depths where the water is clean.
$20 can give water to someone for 25 years.
Sad? Don't be. Over
100 cities all over the planet are using the microblogging service
Twitter to collaborate and raise
money for charity:water. To celebrate in
true Austin fashion, our Twestival will feature:
1.) A Sumo Suit Smackdown on
livestreamed TV.
2.) Pics by Michael Cummings from
dreaminpictures.com.
3.) A raffle. One free raffle
ticket comes with every entry ticket and you can choose the
items you want to potentially win.
4.) A speech by someone from www.aglimmerofhope.org, a partner of
charity:water's who actually drills wells in Ethiopia. A
Glimmer of Hope has given water to over a million people.
5.) A live performance by Austin's
own T Bird and the
Breaks. This dynamic band was picked as one of Austin's
greatest new bands in 2008 by both "The Sound and the
Jury" Awards at ACL and by the Austin Music Awards.
6.) Free Stuff! Everyone there
is going to get a free Jungle Disk license to back up all
their cool pics, video, and anything else on their computer.
The retail value of this is $20. You will also receive a
coupon for Viva Chocolato for one
free gelato. Yum.
7.) A livestream to www.liveearth.org, which has
streamed some of most well viewed livestreamed concerts in
history. This site belongs to Al Gore.
Our host Josh Shepherd of the Backline Show will ensure we
make a difference and that a good time will be had by all. So give
back, have fun with your Tweeps, and spread the word. We
are looking to pack Aces Lounge and raise a lot of money for this
very important cause.
