The Calgary Social Media Breakfast (SMBYYC) is pleased to announce that Zoey Duncan, Derek Wilken and Steele Duncan will be the speakers at our event on October 19th.
ZEDS Comic Communication (@ZEDSwit) works and plays to improve peoples' humour by teaching the skills of comedy, in turn creating more resilient, adaptable and fun people for you to sit next to on the C-Train. ZEDS provides small group and corporate workshops to add more humour to everyone's daily life.
Derek Wilken and Zoey Duncan of ZEDS will be facilitating a taste of their Social Media Wit workshop for Social Media Breakfast #33. You spend so much time using social media to promote yourself and your clients, wouldn't it be great if more people read and shared what you wrote?
Studies show (and who are we to argue?) individuals and companies with a humourous online presence have a closer connection to their followers. Despite this information, a majority of the blog posts and tweets out there are—how can I be kind—less-than amusing. Using humour to promote your business or cause, rant about injustice (or telling us what you had to eat) will make a visit to your blog or Twitter much more fun for us. And it's all about us.
This is an interactive presentation, so stretch your thumbs, bring a smartphone or tablet with internet access and be ready to tweet.

Cost: There is no fee to attend a Social Media Breakfast.
Parking: Street parking is free until 9am. To give you the opportunity to pay for parking, presentation will begin at 9:05 am. It is recommended that you do NOT park in the Safeway lot as they do monitor the parking lot.

Derek Wilken (@allegedlyold)
Derek has been a comic for 25 years and has taught and mentored wannabes for 15 years. He will tell you those that can't… teach others who shouldn't. As the founder of the CHEERS project and the creative director of ZEDS, Derek has put more than 1,000 ordinary people on stage at comedy clubs where more than 100,000 have laughed. Derek gained notoriety in the Twittersphere during the 2012 provincial election by making fun of all parties in 140 characters or less. He is a humour columnist and fills his politics and sports blogs with jokes more often than Alberta changes governments. For a good rhyme... call Derek.
Zoey Duncan (@zoeywrites)
Zoey is a writer and Twitter nut who puns more than any woman ought to. She began blogging in earnest in 2008 with a vegetarian food blog inspired by a cleanse that made her dream about bacon. In the 2011-12 blogging season, Zoey wrote more than 1,000 blog posts about Calgary, some of which were read. Zoey performed stand-up comedy first at the age of 12, and if you know any tween girls, you'll understand how funny she was. Since then, Zoey has performed in comedy clubs, bars and schools, and has earned great abs by laughing at her own jokes, even when nobody else will.
Steele Duncan (@AwesomeSteele)
Steele is a third-year student at the Alberta College of Art and Design, where he is majoring in Being Kind of a Big Deal. In addition to studying the art of comic books, creating papier mache sculptures and soldering together gears and light switches, Steele is the vice-president of Student Life on campus, and as a politician, has plenty of opportunity to use humour. Steele first did stand-up comedy at the age of 10 and we haven't figured out how to stop him since. Steele will kick off our workshop with a special presentation, in rap.
