Twestival = Twitter + Festival
Ok, so what is it? Twestival is an in-person
event where users of social media such as Twitter and Facebook come
together to raise money for a charity in their local community, but
there’s a twist. Money is also raised online
via twitter users that are promoting and supporting the event.
During a Twestival event there is typically a flat screen scrolling
live twitter and Facebook posts from people that are supporting the
event. These posts come from all over the globe.
Let’s say you’re from Santa Barbara, but you live in San
Francisco. During the event you’d log on to
Twitter or Facebook and write a post showing your support for the
charity. That post would be shown live during the
event. Your local event quickly spreads
global…hence the power of Twestival. Now
that we’ve cleared that up (we hope), lets get to
it.
Between September 10th and the 13th, Santa
Barbara will join a worldwide network of 200+ cities hosting events to
raise money for a charity in their community.
Santa Barbara
Twestival will benefit Direct Relief International. The
event will be held on the 11th of September, 2009 at the
Canary Hotel, on The Perch. For every dollar in donations that
Direct Relief receives, they are able to provide more than $37 in
donated medicines and medical supplies to their local partners.
Not only does it FEEL good that 100% of your donation is going
to Direct Relief International, but it also TASTES good since it
includes one free TwitterTini cocktail. No-host bar and
complimentary appetizers.
Tickets are LIMITED, but donations are
not. Please take a moment to learn more about Twestival and Direct
Relief International. 100% of ticket sales go to Direct Relief
International.
If you're not on Twitter, create an
account and get involved. Spread the word about the event, encourage
people to donate, and we'll see you at the Canary Hotel.
