Event Description:
On September 17, 2010, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert announced
on-air their historic Rally To Restore Sanity And/ Or Fear would take
place in Washington DC on October 30, 2010. From the moment this
event was revealed and for the month leading up to the Rally, COMEDY
CENTRAL recognized the importance of keeping their audience informed
while engaging and encouraging them to participate via in person or digitally.
To successfully pull off an event of this magnitude, in such a
short period of time, COMEDY CENTRAL knew that by utilizing Social
Media they would make an immediate and significant impact on their
audience. Through partnerships with Facebook,
Twitter, Foursquare and Meetup, as well are more traditional CRM
activities such as email marketing and mobile alerts, COMEDY CENTRAL
was able to engage their audience on all platforms. The network
connected with fans across the country and world while surprising and
delighting them along the way. The event was a multi-platform
success -- over 250,000 people attended the Rally; 2.0 million viewers
watched it on COMEDY CENTRAL; it became the largest single event ever
for Foursquare and fans streamed live on comedycentral.com or via
their iPhone, iPad or Android devices to make this is one of the
biggest live streaming events ever for MTV Networks.
