Event Description:
Panelists will discuss the City’s use of social media and
technology to better serve its customers and promote economic development.
The panel will serve as an introduction to Rachel Sterne, the
City’s new Chief Digital Officer who will talk about the
City’s vision for the role and how she will use social media to
engage the City’s residents and visitors. NYCEDC President
Pinsky and DoITT Commissioner Post will discuss recently launched
programs targeted at engaging New Yorkers through social media
channels. These include @NYC; NYC Simplicity
, the
City's plan to make government more
customer-focused, innovative,
and efficient; NYC Snow Update, the City’s site for
snowstorm info; the NYC Simplicity Idea Market, a
crowdsourcing platform created to allow City employees to
submit ideas for improving how the City does business; the development
of a new Applied Sciences Facility and efforts to develop and retain a
high-tech workforce; and the City’s overall efforts to support
entrepreneurs and startup companies to strengthen New York
City’s position as global leader in innovation.
