    This instructor led, practical fundamentals course is designed to introduce a wide audience to the technology of Alfresco Enterprise Content Management. Through a blend of sessions, demonstrations, working examples and labs the participant will become familiar with Alfresco's technology, architecture and learn when and where it should be applied.

    The course will allow participants to understand what it is possible to do with the system and to make appropriate and informed decisions about when to deploy the technology and how to deploy the technology.

    In order for participants to understand how development is carried out we also look at the alternative options of configuring, customizing and developing with Alfresco.

    At the end of this course you should be able to:

    •    Understand the components of an Alfresco ECM system and their interactions
    •    Create and manipulate content in the repository
    •    Understand how Alfresco manages content and metadata
    •    Understand the Alfresco content model
    •    Create custom object types and aspects
    •    Describe the Alfresco security model

    •    Understand repository configurations

    Audience
    This course is aimed at first time Alfresco users who will be engaged on an Alfresco project as Technical Architects, Support Engineers and Developers and those who will be continuing an Alfresco learning pathway to become an Alfresco expert.

    The course can be taken without any previous Alfresco experience and does not require any other courses as a pre-requisite. It acts as a precursor to a number of other Alfresco courses. The course material reflects the Alfresco Fundamentals pathway and covers the same topics as self-paced online Fundamentals class, but in a more intensive fashion.

    Alfresco Advanced Training

    This Advanced series of lessons will be instructor led and is designed to further your knowledge and experience of Alfresco in a number of key areas. Training will consist of four (4) BRAND NEW sessions led by Certified Alfresco Instructors. The material will cover development and administration topics and a look at best practices. Each of the four sessions will be delivered by a different Alfresco expert with specialization in their field.

    Content Outline

    1. Managing Storage and Content
    This new session is taken from the upcoming Advanced System Administration course, looks at how to manage storage areas, content and indices using the new index implementation based on Solr:

    • how is content is stored and indexed?
    • how do you set up different content stores?
    • how does indexing works (Solr)?
    • how do you configure and monitor the indexes?

    2. Alfresco Workflow
    This new session is taken from the Alfresco Workflow course and provides a high-level introduction to creating and deploying workflows in Alfresco using the Activiti BPM engine.

    • process and task definition
    • deployment and execution

    3. Share Dashlet Development
    This new content is borrowed from the upcoming Share Development course and focuses on how to develop new dashlets for Share:

    • dashlets overview and components
    • developing dashlets
    • browser dependencies and internationalization (i18n)
    • storing and registering new dashlets

    4. OpenCMIS Development
    This session is taken from the upcoming OpenCMIS development course and takes an in-depth looks at development methods and APIs in Alfresco, before going on to look at CMIS and using OpenCMIS to develop client applications.
