Participants will learn how to make from scratch simple handmade
notebooks, using basic methods and a variety of materials.
We will also explore the possibilities for using these simple
methods to make ‘artists books’ an artform which is
becoming more popular. Participants will learn how to stitch pages
together to make a notebook with a cover, as well as alternative
types of ‘book’ and decorative methods will also be
explored. Participants will learn techniques they can use at home
and will receive a worksheet with instructions to take away with them.
All materials for producing the books and learning the
techniques will be provided, as well as worksheets. Participants
will be encouraged to use found and recycled material so you might
want to start collecting! For the artists book you might want to
select a short poem or use your sketchbook ideas. We would
recommend also that participants bring with them a plain page
notebook to keep ideas and personal notes. Suitable clothing
should be worn; latex gloves will be provided as required.
Worksheets will be provided
