Components Series
14 March - 25 April
A performance series with a rare
difference, Components features a series of new works by Irish
composers developed over six concerts. Each week a collection of
New Irish music will be written and performed, each piece will
be recorded, developed and used to accompany a musician at
another performance in the series. This process will be repeated
so that you can follow the development of the composers work
through the series like a serial or a soap-opera.
Each concert will be podcast on this site each week, so that
you can listen back to the music or catch-up on the progress of
your favorite works. You can listen to the whole concert or
follow a particular composer through the series.
The Aim of this unprecedented concept, is to establish a
greater understanding of the compositional process and to make
creative Irish music more accessible. It is my hope that these
concerts will be followed each week by a healthy dialogue
between the audience the composers and the performers.
Performance dates:
Sunday 14th March - Paul
Roe [Clarinets]
Paul Roe [Clarinets]
"I began playing the clarinet at age seven, thus began a
lifelong fascination with music. The process of making, learning and
performing music has always intrigued me. This passion continues
unabated. Now in my mid-forties it often feels like I am only
beginning to understand music. In the words of the Japanese painter,
Hokusai (who constantly sought to produce better work) " if I go
on trying I will surely understand still better by the time I am
eighty-six ". Music has a peculiarly synesthetic quality for me;
it stimulates all the senses in a way that connects me to a vividly
visceral world, energized by sound."
