On March 24th, over 200 cities
around the world will gather at "Tweetups for a
cause", called Twestival.
Vancouver is pleased to once again
host Twestival Local, a Twestival with a different spin. Instead
of supporting one global cause, we get to partner with a local
non-profit and really make our fundraising efforts count close to home.
What your ticket gets you:
-
Admission to Twestival Local 2011
in Vancouver at the Vancouver Lookout (360 degree views of
Vancouver from over 30-storeys up)
-
1 drink ticket for wine courtesy
of our sponsors Hester Creek, Summerhill Pyramid, and Tinhorn Creek
-
Catered evening (food sponsor yet
to be announced)
-
Photobooth, accoustic performance
by a local artist, chance to mingle with your Twitter friends, and more
-
A contribution to a very worthy
local cause:
100% of Twestival's ticket and raffle sales
(along with all other proceeds) will go to
Beauty Night Society
's Life Makeover Program that includes an opportunity for
participants to access the 3 streams of programming to build
self-esteem & change their lives.
-
Wellness
(including foot care, diabetes 2 screening, walk/run
program, yoga & journalling...)
-
Makeover (hair,
makeup, nails, skin care, etc.) including the
reintroduction of touch, connecting to community
partners for food, shelter, health care...
-
Life Skill
Development (goal setting, visioning, personal budgeting)...
With our goals set
high this year we hope to be able to cover the costs of
running over 50 Life-Makeover programs over the next year.
Vancouver's Twestival
history:
-
February 2009:
Vancouver's first (and the first-ever) Twestival
Global saw over 200 cities around the world host
events on the same night. Our event was at the Opus
who graciously donated their space. With Twitter just
emerging in the mainstream the idea of a Twitter
fundraising event was foreign to many. Even still, we
raised $4,000 locally for Charity:Water, the global
cause and I was amazed to see over 150 people attend
and show their support.
-
September 2009: Vancouver
hosted Twestival Local, orchestrated by the global
team but partnering with a local cause, the BC
Children's Hospital Foundation. We raised about $3,000
for their "Be a Superhero Campaign" in a
more intimate setting, during a mid-day event.
-
March 2010: Vancouver
once again participated in Twestival Global and this
time we kicked it up a notch. I enlisted a group of
amazing volunteers and formed a much larger organizing
committee. With their help and dedication to this
event, that was hosted at the CBC audience lounge, we
raised over $9,000 for Concern Worldwide.
