Cheltenham
is joining cities across the globe including Rio De Janeiro, New
York, Honolulu and Sydney on the 24 March to take part in Twestival
(Twitter Festival). In Cheltenham we will be supporting local
charity Grow. 100% of all ticket receipts and money raised will go
to Grow.
The event will take place in
D'Fly, Clarence Street, Cheltenham on 24 March
from 7.30pm to 2.00am and will include live music
from Saskia Gregory, casino tables and a raffle plus they'll be
2-4-1 on cocktails.
Grow improves the lives of
vulnerable people in Cheltenham who are disadvantaged or
excluded from society. They are aiming to raise £10,000
for a survival skills projects throughout the year to help make
a positive change to at-risk children living in Cheltenham, by
providing an environment where the children can thrive and feel
safe, secure and accepted. Each course is based in the woodlands
over 10 weekends. The children will learn how to light a fire
five different ways, search and identify wild edibles, build a
clay oven, cook with food they have collected, find water
sources and purification, orienteer, build a shelter and camp
out, and many more skills. Through these skills and working with
such things as music therapy and a positive peer culture, the
children will gain a sense of confidence and self-esteem,
valuable communication skills, compassion, responsibilty,
respect for themselves and for others. They will also learn
important team building skills and learn how to build
relationships to take with them on their life journey into society.
