In 1970s Cadiz, Spain, with the arrival of an American military base, the traditional Andalusian Flamenco music was revolutionized. Hendrix and Santana, along with countless others, began intertwining with the local gypsy music, electrifying the already famously stunning guitaring.
La Perla del Sur is a duo stemming from these opposing musical backgrounds, united by a passion for guitars. Juan Jose is an astounding flamenco guitarist, breathing the earth, wind and waves of Cadiz into his playing. Whereas Jose is heavily rhythmic with a taste for the 70s, constantly injecting the soul of the heady decade into his music.
The energy created when they play is dynamic. Then, as now, the two forces collide, pushing, challenging, inspiring, ever evolving… resting only for a pint.
