DESCRIPTION:Fresh from receiving his latest Gramophone award\, for his re
cording of the \nRavel concertos and Debussy's Fantasie\, the charismati
 c French pianist\, \nJean-Efflam Bavouzet <http://pottonhall.com/bio/jea
n-efflam-bavouzet/> \, \nreturns to Potton Hall for the next installment
in his series of Beethoven \nsonata performances.\nLast year Jean-Effla
m gave an unforgettable recital at Potton Hall \n<http://pottonhall.com/
 2010/09/27/reflecting-on-bavouzet-beethoven/> \nincluding Beethoven's Pa
thétique Sonata and this time he will play the \nthree sonatas of Beetho
 ven's Op.10. These are highly contrasting works\, \nbeginning with the i
ntense drama of the first\, in the significant key of C \nminor in which
the shadow of fate - alias Beethoven's Fifth Symphony - is \nnever far
away. The second of the sonatas is more relaxed\, even humorous \nand to
ngue-in-cheek at times and the Op.10 set is crowned by the grand and \nm
agnificent third sonata\, one of the young Beethoven's greatest \nachiev
ements.\nJean-Efflam has recently had great reviews for the latest CDs i
n his Haydn \nproject\, all recorded at Potton Hall: “These performances
sound natural\, \nappropriate and in perfect structural and expressive
proportion… Bavouzet’s \nrecordings have a strong claim to be the finest
Haydn playing of recent \nvintage on modern piano. They are the work of
an insightful musician of \nprofound culture and wide interests\, whose
intellectual and emotional \nidentification with Haydn is unreserved\,
and whose playing\, beautifully \ncaptured in technical terms\, is a del
ight to listen to.” (International \nRecord Review\, April 2011).\n“Bavo
uzet is perhaps the ideal pianist for Haydn: his clarity of touch\, \nqu
ickness of wit and sensitivity to different soundworlds make him an \nem
pathetic interpreter… Just the finesse and vibrancy we’ve come to expect
\nfrom this superb artist.” (Classic FM Magazine\, June 2011)\n“Cleanly
  precise\, sure-fingered yet beautifully delicate\, Bavouzet warms \nthe
heart with his humour and gentle passion… A recording worth rushing to
\nthe shops for.” (Haydn: Sonatas Vol. 3 - Classic FM Magazine\, Novembe
r \n2011)\nJean-Efflam has recently recorded Debussy's early Piano Trio
at Potton Hall \nwith members of the Brodsky Quartet and produced by Jer
emy Hayes and after \nthis concert he will record these three Beethoven
sonatas for forthcoming \nrelease on the Chandos label.\nThis concert sh
 ould be unmissable!\nProgramme:\nSonata in C minor\, Op.10 No.1\nSonata
