Puppetry Workshop - making Marionettes - Visual Art Series - ** UNIQUE TO IRELAND**

hosted by Camilla Fanning

Centre for Creative Practices

Tuesday, 23/Feb/2010 06:30 PM

  • Description

This is a beginner’s introductory course to making a traditional marionette. Participants will be introduced to the basic concepts of designing and making a stringed puppet using a variety of craft and found materials, you will learn the technique of making the marionette, ‘sculpt’ the head, and explore ways to express puppet personality and character in the design and making of ‘facial’ features and costume. Using traditional and modern techniques, methods, materials  - and a lot of imagination.
All basic & essential materials and equipment will be provided on the course, however participants should also start to collect any interesting found materials that they might like to incorporate. During the course participants may be asked to source ‘found’ materials.  While the workshop will allow ample time to complete the project, you may like to do some further work on your project at home as well, we would recommend also that participants bring with them a plain page notebook to keep ideas and personal notes. Suitable clothing should be worn; latex gloves will be provided as required.
