Monotyping Workshop

hosted by Marta Wakula-Mac

Centre for Creative Practices

Saturday, Feb 12 2011 11:00 AM

  • Description

This year we are starting our printmaking workshops with Marta Wakula Mac with monotyping – aprinted painting, known as the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques. It isa type of printmaking made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface for example acrylic glass. The image is then transferred onto a sheet of paper by pressing the two together using a printing-press. Monotype is often regarded as a non-editionable kind of print and the characteristic of this method is that no two prints are alike. The beauty of this medium is also in its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting and drawing media. Monotypes can also be created by inking an entire surface and then, using brushes or rags, removing ink to create a subtractive image.

The workshop is aimed at those who have some printmaking experience or an interest in printmaking; however it is also suitable for people who are new to art.

As students will be working from their own ideas, it is important to bring some drawings, photographs or other images as source material.

Participants will be provided with all materials. Latex gloves and rags are also provided. Suitable clothing should be worn.

Please bring a notebook, pencils and your drawings or sketches.
