TREASA O’BRIEN
is a filmmaker, artist, writer and curator. Her film practice
incorporates fiction, experimental video art and documentary but
she is mostly interested in when the three distinctions collapse.
Her work often explores socio-political themes, such as
private/public space, the individual and the collective, and world
development issues. She also devises timebased performative
interventions in the public realm from time to time. She has
recently completed a Masters in Film-making in Goldsmiths
University in London, where she specialised in directing, and
wrote screenplays for short fiction films which she made with her
M.A. production group, Full House Films. These films feature
strong female protagonists and deal with socio-political issues
and contemporary moral dilemmas. She originally studied visual art
(Limerick School of Art and Design 1996-2000) and has worked
curatorially in the Butler Gallery, National Sculpture Factory and
Crawford Gallery of Art. She also writes short fiction and reviews
and articles on film and art. Recent screenings/exhibitions
include a screening with Ken Loach in Deptford, London (March
2010), the Goldsmiths M.A Graduation Screening in BAFTA, Picadilly
(Jan 2010), a multimedia exhibition The Right to Play:
Producing Images from Nicaragua in Triskel Arts Centre,
Cork (2009), The World Social Forum in Brasil (2009) and
Public Improvisations in Milan (2008-9).
