Paul
Watson (Newcastle University)
Paul
Watson is Professor of Computer Science at Newcastle University,
Director of the Informatics Research Institute, and Director of
the North East Regional e-Science Centre. He graduated in 1983
with a BSc in Computer Engineering from Manchester University,
followed by a PhD in 1986. From 1990-5 he worked in industry for
ICL as a system designer of the Goldrush MegaServer parallel
database server, which was released as a product in 1994. He
moved to Newcastle University in 1995 to work on data-intensive
computing, and since then has been an investigator on research
projects worth over £30 million.
Simone
Bruzzoni (Amazon)
Simone
Brunozzi is a technology enthusiast, involved in IT and
computing since an early age.
He joined Amazon.com in may
2008 in the role of Web Services Evangelist, traveling across
Europe and vicinity to showcase the innovative new solutions by
Amazon Web Services and help developers build businesses and
applications. He is following the “Cloud Computing”
paradigm shift since 2006, and believes that it is going to
replace the traditional computing model in a few years.
Simon
Davies (Microsoft)
Simon
is a Solutions Architect in Microsoft’s Developer and
Platform Group in the UK. He has developed software on PC
Mainframe and UNIX platforms. For the last 12 years in Microsoft
Simon has worked with many organisations to help them understand
how to create applications that exploit new platforms and
technology from Microsoft and for the past 12 months he has been
working with early adopters of Microsoft’s Azure Services Platform.
Ian
Clarke (Sage UK)
Sage
Research and Development Director, accountable for the
technology strategy and long term product direction for the UK
and Ireland region. Over 25 years experience in the
software industry all of which has been spent in software
development. Ian has held leadership positions at GEC, Thorn EMI
as well as operating at board level in a number of UK based
software houses. A passion for doing what’s right for the
customer and ensuring technology is clearly focused on solving
real world customer problems.
Stuart
Lynn (Sage UK)
Stuart
Lynn heads up the Research and Development department for
Sage’s Mid Market Division in the UK. His teams design and
build a portfolio of business software for medium to large
enterprise businesses. Stuart has a passion for delivering high
quality software, which is driven by the needs of, and to
deliver benefits to, the end user. Over the past few years
software usability has been a particularly focus for Stuart,
having set up a UK wide body within Sage to improve the
intuitiveness and accessibility of Sage software
Ross Cooney
(Rozmic)
Ross Cooney
is
the Managing Director and was one of the founding members of
Rozmic
, the developers of the
emailcloud
email spam protection service
. Ross has been at the forefront of spam and virus research
for more than a decade. Working in partnership with some of the
industry greats such as
Trend Micro
,
Command Antivirus
,
Sophos
and
Beginfinite
. Ross has particular expertise in Linux software
development and Cloud Computing. He runs the Gateshead & Newcastle-upon-Tyne
Amazon Web
Service user group
and
helps to manage the
SuperMon
day
s
events
every month in Newcastle University.
Steve Caughey
(Arjuna)
As CEO of Arjuna Technologies
Ltd (ATL), Steve is responsible for strategy, corporate
development and partnerships. Prior to founding ATL Steve worked
as a software engineer and system's architect for a number of
telecommunications companies before joining the influential
Arjuna research team at Newcastle University in 1990.His
research focused on large scale distribution, object migration
and fault tolerance and he was instrumental in commercializing
the prototype work of this group by co-founding Arjuna Solutions
in 1998. Steve led this start-up company to acquisition, by
Bluestone Software, within 12 months of creation. In 2001,
following Bluestone's acquisition by HP, he formed the HP-Arjuna
Labs in Newcastle which gained international acclaim as a Centre
of Excellence in the complex domain of transactional and
messaging software. In 2002, with the news that HP were
disbanding their Middleware Division, Steve co-founded Arjuna
Technologies as a vehicle to continue development of Arjuna's
software products under license from HP. In 2005, he forged a
partnership with JBoss that led to the distribution of Arjuna's
Transaction Service as an open source component of the
JBoss]Middleware stack. Arjuna Technologies is now focused on
delivering 'Agility' (
www.arjuna.com/agility/
) a Federated Cloud Computing Platform.
