DESCRIPTION:Zero-Waste: Possibilities for Profitable Automotive Tyres Rec
 ycling in \nEuropean Regions\n19 January 2012\,\n13.00 - 18.00\, Room JD
E 53\,\nThe Committee of the Regions\nOne of the most popular methods of
tyres utilization is grinding the tyres \ninto the rubber crumb. Curren
tly existing and widely used recycling methods \nthat exist throughout E
urope\, face problem of effective market replication \nand generating pr
ofit. Major amount of tyres are ending up to further use \nin a form of
rubber crumb (what is arguable preserving danger for the \nenvironment)
\, but only minor recyclers offer full\, ecologically safe \nprocessing
of tyres (via pyrolysis\, thermolysis\, etc). Economic viability \nremai
ns the major issue.\nResearching methods of economically profitable ways
of pyrolysis\, \nthermolysis and other methods of recycling would turn
rubber waste \nutilization from the current position of being burden for
producers to \nprofitable enterprises. It is not only making Europe gr
eener via utilizing \nwastes\, but creates healthy jobs and enterprises
on the market in this \ndifficult time.\nCould this be a one of solution
s for further development of utilization and \nrecycling automotive tyre
s in different regions of the European Union into \nthe profitable enter
prises rather than obligatory burden on producers? What \nother methods
of reuse and recycling can provide successful market \nreplication as a
business model in result?\nIn the report “End of life tyres”\, published
in 2010\, European Tyre & \nRubber Manufacturers Association (ETRMA) st
ates\, that “…the economic \nviability of this alternative route for hig
h temperature resource recovery \nfrom tyres is hampered by the fact tha
t the prices obtained for the \nby-products often fail to justify the pr
ocess costs. Under current market \nconditions the economic viability of
these options has yet to be proved \n(there are few or no large-scale p
lants currently in operation) but they \nhave the merit to offer scope f
or increasing recycling rates”.\nThe discussion on advantages and disadv
antages of pyrolysis and thermolysis \nan a very topical issue and needs
to be addressed by the manufactures and \nrecyclers very attentively. T
he regional implication of the issue is also \nessential\, considering d
ifferent levels of recycling existing now \nthroughout the European Unio
n.\nLess developed markets are consuming more cars each year\, and even
\ncurrently saturated markets are tend to shorten life cycle of single c
ar\, \ntherefore opening potential for more waste. And even bicycles\, i
n the end \nof the day\, are still run on rubber wheels. What other solu
tions can be \nbrought for the European green future? What are the oppor
tunities and \nlimitations\, for instance in the framework of Zero-Waste
programme? How is \nit possible to support and motivate companies to fi
nd innovative and \ncommercially viable methods of recycling?\n \nProgra
