 d DIY video creators\, curators\, digital culture \nscholars\, and Inter
 net industry leaders gathered at the University of \nSouthern California
  for a summit on the future of video creation and \ncommunication. It wa
 s the first event of its kind\, at a pivotal moment in \nthe evolution o
 f media\, convening the wide-ranging communities that were \njust starti
 ng to come together around grassroots\, everyday and amateur \nvideo cre
 ation. After a successful second summit hosted by the Hammer \nMuseum in
  Los Angeles in October 2010\, the event makes its 2011 Bay Area \ndebut
  at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco with the \nlates
 t in amateur online video featuring an extensive line-up of funny\, \npa
 ssionate\, political and creative DIY videos culled from diverse genres 
 \nand highlighting recent trends and techniques emerging from the DIY sc
 ene. \nAdditionally\, the event features panels and workshops related to
  video \nmaking practices\, all open and free to the public (registratio
 n required). \nThe theme of the 2011 show is “collective action\,” as vi
 deomakers reach out \nto others\, creating active communities in dialogu
 e. The program includes \nexamples from the most prominent forms of amat
 eur video production\, \nincluding lip dubs\, in which students craft si
 ngle-shot music video \nportraits of their schools\; brilliant auto-tune
  spoofs that transform \nquotidian and ridiculous moments captured on ta
 pe into sublime musical \nevents\; video remixes that are by turns overt
 ly political and hilarious\; \nvideoblogs documenting everyday life and 
 collective action around the \nworld\; and fan vids\, in which fans reim
 agine their icons through editing\, \nsound design and remix. Curated co
 llectively with input from Matteo \nBittanti\, Francesca Coppa\, Sasha C
 ostanza-Chock\, Ryanne Hodson\, Jonathan \nMcIntosh\, Tim Park and Mike 
 Wesch\, who each made selections from different \nDIY genres\, the final
  program includes dozens of examples in a fast-paced \noverview.\nThe 24

 r video creators\, \nillustrate how to create more beautiful\, artistic

  from North \nCarolina\, but ended up in New York in the late ’90s and e
 arly ’00s. He \nmoved to the Bay Area in 2004\, and currently lives in S
 an Francisco. His \nperformances are wild\, eclectic\, flamboyant\, humo
 rous\, energetic and \npassionate\, and he is a true believer in the DJ’
 s unique ability to be a \ncurator and narrator. A champion of outsider 
 music styles and eclectic \nmixing techniques rooted in a core of hip-ho
 p\, jungle\, and dub\, these days \nthe Kid’s sets take in ever-widening
  genres from breakcore to b-more\, \ndubstep to dancehall\, club\, pop\,
  juke and even rock. A prolific mixer\, \nwriter and journalist\, he kee
